J114M has always taught and believed that the grace of our glorious God, the lavish generosity of Abba in redeeming our hearts, restoring our lives, and renewing our hope is all the motivation His Children need to give and give graciously to His Cause and His Kingdom.
If gratitude for the sacrifice of His Son on our behalf, if appreciation of His power poured out in the Spirit, if awestruck wonder at the sheer wealth of riches and resources available to us in Christ Jesus {Eph. 1:3}, doesn't grip our hearts in moments of worship, maybe we don't really know Himβ or the wealth of His Wordβ like we think we do. Because grace is the attitude of gratitude.
Paul's commentary on giving, generously and graciously, in 2 Corinthians 9 best describes our approach to the thorny issue of finances in service to the King. "Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for Abba loves a cheerful giver ['a joyous, grateful and gracious giver']! And Abba is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need [notice 'need,' not want], you will abound in every good work," vv. 6-8.
